BYD Han DM-i with DM 5.0 PHEV technology and lidar.

Last month, a new version of the BYD Han was revealed, equipped with both DM 5.0 PHEV technology and lidar. At the time, it was believed that the debut of this model was still far off, but this month it appeared on the regulator’s list. It’s now clear that it’s just a new version of the existing Han DM-i, rather than an all-new car.

The two most significant changes involve the powertrain and the lidar. BYD is rapidly rolling out the new DM 5.0 technology to all of its models. As speculated last month, the BYD Han does indeed use a more powerful version of DM 5.0. This means it has the same 1.5T BYD472ZQB engine found in the more powerful versions of the BYD Seal 07 DM-i. The engine has a power output of 115kW and is complemented by a TZ210XYD electric motor with a peak output of 200kW. Little is yet known about the use of the more powerful engine in the DM 5.0 PHEV configuration. Three key figures – 46.06% thermal efficiency, fuel consumption of 2.9 l/100 km and a range of 2,100 km – were derived from the smaller 74 kW atmospheric engine in the smaller Qin L and Seal 06 DM-i vehicles.

The Han’s dimensions remain the same: 4975, 1910 and 1495 mm (length/width/height), as well as a wheelbase of 2920 mm. However, an additional length of 4995 mm is also listed, the reason for the existence of which is not yet clear. The curb weight of the new Han is slightly reduced to 1860 kg compared to a minimum of 1870 kg for the previous Han DM-i version.

There is currently no information on the battery capacity, except that it will be supplied by BYD subsidiary FinDreams and will be a lithium-iron-phosphate blade type battery. The current version of the Han DM-i uses an 18.3 kW⋅h battery, and it is likely that the new model will feature a similarly sized battery.

It is clear from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology list that lidar is an option and is likely to be available only in more expensive configurations. It is mounted on the roof.

Other options include a panoramic roof that can be opened, as well as different mirror and lighting options depending on the specification of the car. It can also be equipped with a digital rearview mirror.

With the release of information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology list, we can expect the launch of the BYD Han with DM 5.0 technology and lidar in the coming months. Prices for the current DM-i version of the BYD Han range from 169,800 yuan ($23,370) to 225,800 yuan ($31,080). Prices for the new version are likely to be similar.
