Data for March and the first quarter of 2024
Car sales on the global market in March amounted to 8.026 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, which is 1.9% more than a year earlier. During the quarter, sales rose 4.4% to 20.762 million units, according to GlobalData research.
China topped the ranking of countries in global car sales, selling 2.154 million units in March, up 5.2% from a year earlier. At the same time, in February, in connection with the celebration of the Lunar New Year, China lost its leadership to the States. In March, 1.437 million cars were sold in the United States, with an increase of 5.5%.
Sales in Western European countries in March amounted to 1 million 454 thousand cars (−1%), in Eastern European countries sales soared by 21%, to 404.8 thousand units. There is an increase in sales in Russia, Ukraine and Turkey.
In South America, 200 thousand cars were sold, which is 10.7% less than a year earlier. Also mentioned are the results of Japan (448 thousand units, -21%), Canada (158.8 thousand units, +7.2%) and South Korea (143.4 thousand units, -12.1%) .
